As a naturalista it can be difficult to find the right products for your hair. As we dive deeper into the various hair textures of natural hair it becomes even harder to know what products won’t dry out your curls or leave build-up. I have spent many dollars at beauty supply stores trying to figure out what products will allow me to maintain the freshness of my curls between braid outs, wash-n-gos, etc. After trial and error I have came across three products that I will forever use on my hair.
I would like to note that I am not a hair specialist and can only speak on what has worked on my 4A hair texture. I struggled with dry scalp and flakes after shampooing my hair; it got so bad that even when I went to a beautician and she shampooed and conditioned my hair I still had flakes at the front of my hair. I had to do my own research and change to a new beautician who understood natural hair to be able to develop the regimen I now use. Below are my new favorite hair products:
Christina Moss Naturals
I am so glad I stumbled across this product as it has tremendously helped my dry scalp and has left my curls feeling hydrated, too. I use their shampoo & conditioner together. The products are organically hand-crafted and sulfate-free, which means you don’t have to worry about chemicals seeping into your hair. Their conditioner has peppermint oil in it, which soothes your scalp and lifts any product build-up or dandruff you might have.
Now, some people have mixed feelings when it comes to this product as they feel it dries out your hair, but I have no complaints. You definitely will need to wash your hair a couple days after using this product, but it has done wonders in making my curls pop. I use this product whenever I do a half-down, half-up do, messy bun or just want a sleek look. I would like to note that I do add tea tree oil to my hair when using this product, which is probably why I have no complaints.
Cantu Curl Activator Cream
This is another sulfate-free product that eliminates frizz and keeps your curl volume. The product is lightweight, so you don’t have to worry about it weighing down your hair. I use this product whenever I do a wash-go and want to add moisture to my hair, so it doesn’t dry out.
