Do you struggle with getting out of bed once your phone alarm goes off? I know I do. Once my alarm goes off I immediately press snooze. What should have been an 8-minute snooze often turns into 30-40 minutes of snoozing. Once I finally do decide to get up I’m angry at the fact I wasted 40 minutes that could have been used toward cooking breakfast, cleaning up or just making sure I am prepared for the day.
One thing I have started doing is setting an early alarm for when I want to get up. For example, if I really want to be up at 8:45 a.m. I set an alarm for 8:15 a.m. This way I still can snooze for a bit, but if 30 minutes goes by it isn’t a complete waste because I wouldn’t have wanted to get up until 8:45 a.m. always.
A few other ways to help you actually wake up earlier and get out of bed are:
1) Go to bed early
There’s no reason to be scrolling on Instagram for a hour before bed. Not only does this hurt your eyes, but it keeps you up for longer even after you’ve put your phone away.
2) Sleep facing a window without curtains
As crazy as this seems this has actually worked for me. I purposely do not have curtains in my bedroom because the natural sunlight hits my face and I’m either forced to wakeup or put a pillow over my face.
3) Act like you’re waking up for your best day ever
If you treat everyday you wake up like it’s a special day then you’ll feel more incline to wake up energized and ready to seize the day.
