Black women are phenomenal! We handle our business and get stuff done. Being a super-woman isn’t always easy, though. What do you do to destress or unwind from a busy day? I am obsessed with hot baths that consist of Epsom salts, and essential oils. I’ll either read a book off of my kindle or literally lay my head back with my eyes closed and relieve my body of any tension from the day.
Do you have any self care practices that get you through the day/week/month? Time alone is very important to me. I’m the type of person that needs to be away from it all in order to recharge and be my best self. I always want to spread positives vibes wherever I go. So, if I’m feeling a little crappy, I’ll stay in, deal with myself first, before I head back out into the outside world again.
How often do you incorporate fitness into your daily routine? I have a “quota” that I aim to meet every week. And that is movement no less than 4 times a week. I love to ride bikes with my husband! I’m also a Native New Yorker and we are always on the go. So walking a lot has always been part of my fitness routine. Yoga was once a huge part of my fitness routine but, I have to find my way back to it!
What is the definition of a BOSS to you? A definition of a BOSS to me is someone who takes responsibility for their actions and treats everyone with the utmost respect. Someone who is not afraid to make mistakes, but grows and learns from them. Someone who knows that there is a God who sits high and looks low, b/c honestly we can’t be strong all the time, and it takes a real one, a humble one, to acknowledge that.
If you could be a celebrity for the day who would you be and why? Hmmm.. tough one! Lol! It’ll prob be Michelle Obama! I respect her so much! She really cares about people; about the children. She’s strong and resilient.
Do you feel that women have to choose between their careers & goals over love or can you truly have it all? I believe you can have it all, if you wait. I’ve been married for 3 years. My husband and I are so different, yet so much alike! We both love to travel, we’re both musicians and entrepreneurs! It’s like we have the same heart. I believe if one waits on God for their spouse, it may not be perfect, but you can truly have it all! Both your careers and love!

What do you do to destress or unwind from a busy day? I’ve had quite a few busy days lately, so when I get a chance to unwind I take advantage of it because I don’t get to do it often. After a busy day, I love to come home, cook a good meal, and take a nice hot bubble bath while listening to some calming music. This helps me to relax my mind & prepare for the next day ahead.
Do you have any self care practices that get you through the day/week/month? I have learned over this year that self care is key! When I’m stressed or overworked I love a great facial or spa day, it keeps me relaxed and motivated.
How often do you incorporate fitness into your daily routine? I wish I would put more time aside to workout. That is my only downfall I would say. My best friend pushes me to workout everyday, but I only workout whenever he forces me.
What is the definition of a BOSS to you? Someone who is fierce, confident, independent, and charming. Someone who knows what they want in life, sets goals, and will not stop until they are satisfied. Always ahead of the game and stands up for what they believe. They are always cheering others on, while accomplishing their dreams.
If you could be a celebrity for the day who would you be and why? Anna Wintor, she is the true definition of a boss.
Do you feel that women have to choose between their careers & goals over love or can you truly have it all? You can have anything you want! If you truly want both, then you will fight twice as hard and work twice as hard to get it and keep it.
What do you do to destress or unwind from a busy day? Most days, my commute helps me unwind from the workday. If I’m still processing information from my workday, talking it out with family members helps me separate and understand how I may have been feeling about the day.
Do you have any self care practices that get you through the day/week/month? In Issue 12 of Forty Magazine, we have a great article discussing the various type of releases we need to truly take care of ourselves. During the week, I’m good about listening to my church podcasts, practicing yoga, and dancing to music in the bathroom to give myself a daily release. Monthly, I treat myself to manicures, pedicures, blowouts, and
How often do you incorporate fitness into your daily routine? Right now, fitness isn’t a part of my daily routine, but I do prioritize it on a weekly basis. Every Saturday and at least one other day during the week, I make it a priority to get my butt to a spin class, which has been a game changer as I adjust to a more joint-conscious workout regimen.
What is the definition of a BOSS to you? A Boss OWNS their journey and understands where they are today is a part of a bigger picture and plan.
If you could be a celebrity for the day who would you be and why? This is tough for me! Jennifer Lopez, Serena Williams, Meghan Markle, or career wise, Ed Bastian would be fascinating to me! I’d love to try JLo’s workout routine, see how Serena and Meghan balance being super moms and careers, and learn more about aviation from Ed.
Do you feel that women have to choose between their careers & goals over love or can you truly have it all?
My mom instilled in me, “You can have it all– just not at the same time.” During one’s career, you, as a man or woman, may have to pick love of self, family, children, or humanity over your own goals, but there’s nothing wrong with that. To “have it all” is more about the experience and journey than the moment.
